Activity guide

Theater camps

Theater camps build toward a performance. Some mount a full musical in two weeks; others focus on improv, stagecraft, or acting skills without a final show.

Find theater camps near you

175 camps on Campser mention theater activities. Narrow by area and your child's age.

Set your area and Campser will start searches near you.

What a day usually looks like

  • Warm-ups and ensemble games, then rehearsal blocks split by scene
  • Time off-stage on sets, costumes, or lines while other scenes rehearse
  • The last day or two are usually tech and dress rehearsal, then a performance

How to prepare

  • Confirm the performance date early and put it in the calendar — families are usually expected to attend, and it may not be the last day of camp.
  • Ask whether roles are auditioned or assigned. An audition on day one is a difficult surprise for an anxious child.
  • Comfortable movement clothes and closed-toe shoes; stages are not sock-friendly.
  • Expect line memorisation at home during the week for production camps.

Worth asking before you book

  • Is there a performance, and when exactly?
  • How are parts cast, and does every camper get stage time?
  • Is there a costume cost or a requirement to supply pieces?

Two-week production camps compress a lot into the final days. If your family has travel at the end of the session, check the performance date before booking.
